Design and execute three distinct bypass systems to support wastewater system relining while maintaining brewery operations.
Maintain uninterrupted operations during a two-month wastewater system upgrade project.
Provided an integrated three-tier bypass solution combining primary wastewater management, groundwater sump bypass, and supplementary pipe routing, supported by 24/7 monitoring and expert support.
Successfully maintained facility operations for over two months with zero production interruptions while enabling complete wastewater system rehabilitation.
Industrial facilities like breweries require constant wastewater management to maintain production. Any interruption in wastewater handling can force costly production shutdowns. But operating bypass equipment in an active production facility presents unique challenges, particularly regarding noise control and space utilization.
The project required coordination of three distinct bypass systems while ensuring minimal noise impact and maintaining strict hygiene standards typical in food and beverage production facilities. The QuietFlow™ Sound-Attenuated Diesel Trash Pumps were specifically selected for this project to maintain a suitable working environment, providing significant noise reduction compared to standard pumps while delivering the high performance needed in this large industrial brewing setting.
The primary bypass system formed the backbone of the project, utilizing four 12-inch QuietFlow™ Sound-Attenuated Diesel Trash Pumps. The system included 2,000 feet of 18-inch HDPE pipe and a specialized discharge manifold to ensure even flow distribution.
Running in parallel, the secondary system addressed groundwater management through strategically placed submersible pumps, handling water from basement-level sumps. This required careful routing of discharge lines up through the facility, across exterior spaces, and back into the building.
While simpler in design, the tertiary system required extensive pipe routing expertise to integrate 4,500 feet of 12-inch HDPE pipe into the existing facility infrastructure. Equipment staging was carefully planned to ensure optimal performance while minimizing interference with facility operations.
The primary system managed the main wastewater flow.
The secondary system handled groundwater management using submersible pumps.
The tertiary pipe-only system provided additional capacity for flow management.
Beyond the core bypass equipment, Sunbelt Rentals delivered a complete turnkey solution by providing all required ancillary equipment — including skid-steers, reach forklifts, heaters, trench shoring, and air compressors. This all-in-one approach streamlined operations for the contractor while ensuring compatible equipment and unified support services. The comprehensive solution was backed by 24/7 pump watch services to ensure continuous system operation.
The multi-tiered bypass system operated without incident for over two months, enabling:
The project demonstrated how strategic industrial bypass system design and implementation can enable major infrastructure upgrades while maintaining critical production operations.
